“OMG I shouldn’t have eaten this chocolate croissant. I’m so bad.” — does this sound familiar?
Within us we carry several voices. For example, there’s the Food Police voice 👮🏻‍♀️ that commonly interferes with our thought process: “Am I going to be good or bad today?” or the Nutrition Informant voice 👩🏻‍⚕️ which dictates the degree of how “healthy” a food is (fat content, calories, or carbohydrates).
•
If you’re someone who struggles with inner voices like this, I encourage you to start taking note of them. The key really is to observe WITHOUT judgement. Notice the language you are using to talk about your food choices.
Is it negative? Is it destructive? When you start to recognize these thoughts, you can begin to replace them with more gentle + positive thoughts.
👉🏽For example reframing the quote above could sound like “Even though the croissant has chocolate and likely made with butter it is not good or bad. It will nourish me.” Challenging your thoughts can be difficult at first, but like all things with practice it’ll become easier to silence the destructive inner voices so that food can be enjoyed again without a side of morality. 🥐
Loving this delicious message on cookies by @thebirdspapaya @michellethecookiechick (first seen on @merryhoey ‘s acct 😚) which sends the ultimate message of self acceptance cause baby YOU ARE WORTHY!!!! When you’re able to be more gentle with yourself, you’ll see the softness seep into other areas of your life too and it’s a beautiful thing. Start here, start anywhere. In what areas of your life can you meet yourself with a little more self-compassion? How can you be more gentle with yourself? ❤️
Answer: diet culture.

I find it fascinating how quick people are to eliminate whole food groups from their daily intake. Feeling gassy? Out goes the dairy! Feeling tired? Must be the bread!! The thing is...gas+bloat are pretty common symptoms and diarrhea can be triggered for a slew of reasons.
•
Of course for some people suffering from gastrointestinal disorders like IBS or IBD, removing certain foods from your daily diet can be incredibly beneficial. HOWEVER most of the time, unless there’s a clear link to a specific food causing you specific pain, it is NOT necessary to eliminate an entire food group - in fact it can actually be way more harmful.
•
And I totally get it - eliminating food groups gives us something tangible to work on in the moment but it is only temporary control, not a solution. It’s so important to see each food as it is. If the whole wheat bread you’re eating is causing you distress, maybe you’ll do better with something that has less fiber like white bread. If you’re feeling lethargic, how many hours of sleep are you actually getting? Are you spreading your meals throughout the day so you have enough energy to carry you through out? Point is, there could be sooooo many reasons why you’re feeling the way you do. It could be linked to the food but most of the time... it’s not the entire group.
Honored + humbled to be featured in @inthemomentmag as a food positive advocate in the same spread as @evelyntribole @heytiffanyroe @tallyrye @laurathomasphd 🙏🏽

Regarding quote, there is a common misconception about Intuitive Eating..that once you allow yourself to eat all foods, you will not be able to stop. This lack of self trust is usually what leads people to rely on an external force (aka diet 🚨) to tell them when, what and how much to eat. For those embarking on the journey of intuitive eating, allowing ALL FOODS can be very scary. And while it can be terrifying to give yourself permission to eat, it is a crucial step to helping you rebuild the trust with food and your body!!💞 As you rebuild the trust between you and your body, remember your body WILL tell you what it needs..that can be a salad just as much as it can be a cookie (or 2 or 3 or more!)
